LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A St. Mary’s County truck driver won a $50,000 prize on a Bonus Bingo X20 2nd Edition scratch-off ticket, making him the first big winner in the newly released Maryland Lottery game.

The Southern Maryland resident, a longtime fan of bingo- and crossword-themed scratch-offs, purchased the $20 ticket at the Food Lion on Merchant Lane. He typically plays his scratch-offs at the end of the day and was scanning his tickets when he realized he had a winning combination.

“I was shocked and I was very happy,” he said after confirming the win through his lottery app.

The winner plans to use his prize money to help his daughter.

A routine lottery ritual turned into a major payday for this lucky Maryland player.
