STAFFORD, VA – A 17-year-old male has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal shooting on Hulls Chapel Road late Wednesday night, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 11:06 p.m. on September 4, after receiving multiple calls about the incident.

First Sergeant D.W. Fetterolf and Deputy M.N. Sayegh were first on the scene and observed a Ford Mustang fleeing the area. A high-risk stop was conducted, and the 17-year-old driver was detained. The suspect was found to be in possession of a firearm.

At the residence, Deputies X.D. Bates, A.J. Charoenthep, and E.T. Osborn located a 42-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts by deputies and Fire and Rescue staff to administer life-saving measures, the victim, identified as Jose Cruz Del Cid of Stafford, was pronounced dead at 11:25 p.m.

Authorities determined that the shooting stemmed from an argument between Del Cid and a family member, during which the teen suspect became involved and shot the victim. The suspect is facing charges of second-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently being held at Juvenile Intake.

The investigation is ongoing.
