Standoff with Armed barricaded suspect in Newark ends without incident

NEWARK, DE – The Delaware State Police were on the scene at the Compass at the Grove Apartments in Newark following a report of an armed individual barricaded on the property on Monday morning. The incident began on Monday afternoon.

As a precaution, residences in the affected were evacuated, and all entrances to the apartment complex were closed by police.

The event ended peacefully hours later.

“The armed subject who had barricaded himself at the Grove Apartments located in the 1100 block of Compass Way, Newark, has surrendered to police without further incident,” the DSP said in a statement. “The male subject armed with a handgun, barricaded himself in at the apartment a little after 1 o’clock this afternoon. He surrendered to Troopers at approximately 4:52 p.m. at which time he was taken into custody without incident. There were no injuries reported.”
