TOMS RIVER, NJ – At this year’s winter RNC meeting in Utah, the big news of the week was the official censuring of Congresswoman Liz Cheney. The censure wasn’t unanimous. New Jersey’s Republican delegation, State GOP Chairman Bob Hugin, State Committeeman Bill Palatucci and State Committeewoman Virginia Haines were all eligible to cast votes on the censure.
Haines, the Ocean County Commissioner who is up for re-election in 2022 attended the Utah conference but did not vote. The vote was a referendum of former President Donald J. Trump. The other two New Jersey delegates, Palatucci and Hugin voted against Cheney’s censure.
The actions of New Jersey’s GOP delegation signals a cold-turkey cut from the Trump era and the former politicians who opposed Trump during the 2016 Presidential Primary election have once again publicly distanced themselves from the former president.
Haines did not say why she did not vote on the censure.
