NEW YORK, NY – A group of suspects in a white SUV carried out a jewelry switch scam against a woman in Staten Island last Monday.
Today, police released photos of the five individuals wanted in the robbery.
It’s not sure why, but a 27-year-old woman, possibly selling her jewelry, offered the suspects to see her jewelry. They handed it back to her and fled before she realized she was given a fake piece of jewelry in return.
According to the NYPD, shortly after 1 pm on February 6, in the vicinity of Victory Boulevard and Carmel Avenue, a white SUV containing five unknown individuals pulled up to the 27-year-old female victim and engaged her in a brief conversation.
“A female in the rear of the vehicle asked to see the victim’s jewelry. The victim complied and was later handed back a piece of jewelry, which she believed to be her jewelry being returned,” police said in a statement. “After the individuals left the scene, the victim realized that she had been provided fake jewelry instead of her property back.”
The value of the property stolen is approximately $10,000.
