Stray Kayak Leads Police to Investigate in Joppatowne

JOPPATOWNE, MD – The Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police (NRP) is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the owner of a blue Pelican kayak that was found drifting in the Gunpowder River near Mariner Point Park on October 16.

The kayak was recovered by NRP officers, but no identifying information was found on the craft. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the NRP dispatch at 410-260-8888 or email Officer Leanna Stone at leanna.stone@maryland.gov.

NRP reminds unregistered paddle-craft owners to label their kayaks or canoes with an “If Found” sticker or other personal contact information. This simple step can help responders determine whether the owner is safe or in need of assistance.
