MONTGOMERY, NJ — A large gathering of car enthusiasts in Montgomery led to a street racing incident Tuesday night, according to local police. Approximately 250 vehicles initially assembled peacefully in a CVS parking lot off Route 206 for what was described as a “street takeover” car meet.
While the event itself was without injuries, damage, or arrests, the situation escalated afterward when several attendees began racing on Belle Mead-Griggstown Road. Montgomery police intervened, stopping multiple vehicles and issuing citations. A 20-year-old man from the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick was specifically cited for reckless driving, careless driving, and ignoring a stop sign.
Police were first alerted to the gathering around 8:30 p.m., when about 100 vehicles had already arrived. Officers remained at the scene throughout the event to monitor the crowd, noting that the initial gathering was conducted peacefully.
