Suffolk County Police Officer Who Rescued Child from House Fire Recognized

WEST ISLIP, NY – A Suffolk County Police officer is being hailed as a hero after rescuing a 10-year-old boy from a burning house in West Islip. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. today on Dogwood Road.

Upon responding to the emergency, police found an 8-year-old boy who had managed to escape the fire through a window. However, his brother remained trapped inside the home. Officer Richard Senese, from the Third Precinct, attempted to enter through the front door but found it locked. He successfully gained entry through a side door despite the heavy smoke conditions inside. Officer Senese located the 10-year-old boy and led him to safety.

Both children and Officer Senese were treated for smoke inhalation at local hospitals and have been released. The Suffolk County Police Arson Section is currently investigating the fire, which is believed to have started in the basement.

The Suffolk County Police Department extends its gratitude to Officer Senese for his bravery and quick action, which ensured the safety of the child in a life-threatening situation.
