Suitland woman almost skips store stop then wins $50,000 scratch off prize
SUITLAND, MD – A Suitland woman who nearly drove past her regular lottery stop instead walked away with a $50,000 top prize after purchasing a 20X the Cash scratch off ticket during a routine visit she almost skipped.
The frequent player claimed her winnings Thursday, Feb. 20, at Maryland Lottery headquarters. She told officials she plays several times a week, favoring scratch off tickets, and often stops at the 7-Eleven at 6404 Auth Road in Suitland on her way home from work.
On the day of the win, she considered skipping her visit but decided to go inside and purchased several scratch off tickets, including a $5 20X the Cash ticket.
Later that day, she scratched the tickets at home and found a match on number 16 on the 20X the Cash ticket. Beneath the number was a $50,000 prize.
She said she paused after seeing the amount and then contacted family and friends. She told lottery officials she plans to use the money toward the purchase of a new home and has plans for a vacation and a birthday celebration.
The 7-Eleven store will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top prize winning ticket. The bonus equals 1% of the $50,000 prize.
The 20X the Cash game launched in January with seven $50,000 top prizes. Following this claim, four top prizes remain unclaimed.
