Surveillance video may hold key in West Fayette Street homicide

BALTIMORE, MD — A man was killed in a late-night shooting last month in Southwest Baltimore, and officials are asking for the public’s help identifying several individuals captured on video near the scene.

Just after 12:45 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 23-year-old Lavar Steeles was fatally shot while in the 1500 block of West Fayette Street, according to investigators.

Surveillance footage from the area captured several people who may be connected to the incident. Officials released the video in an effort to gather information that could aid the investigation.

The shooting occurred near the Union Square neighborhood, not far from downtown. Steeles was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests have been made.

Investigators have not released details on the events leading up to the shooting, and a possible motive has not been disclosed.

Video from the scene was made public with the hope that someone will recognize individuals shown in the footage. Investigators are continuing to examine the video and pursue additional leads.
