Suspect Arrested Following NYC Subway Attack

NEW YORK CITY, NY – The New York City Police Department’s Midtown North Precinct has confirmed the arrest of Kamal Semrade, a 39-year-old man from Queens. Semrade was charged with attempted murder and assault following an incident that occurred on Tuesday, at 7:50 am.

According to initial reports, the police had sought the public’s assistance to identify a suspect involved in an assault on a subway platform. The assault took place on Sunday, May 21, at about 6:05 am at the Lexington Avenue/63 Street Station.

The victim, a 35-year-old woman, was approached from behind and pushed into a departing train. She was immediately transported to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center for treatment of severe head lacerations and spinal injuries. Semrade reportedly fled the scene but was later apprehended.

The New York City Police Department continues to appeal to anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.
