Suspect arrested for Utica church robbery after pawning stolen items

UTICA, NY – On April 18th, Utica police arrested Shaun Barner, 55, in connection with a burglary at St. Mary Mt. Carmel Church, where several lawn care items and money were stolen.

The investigation was assigned to a member of the Burglary Unit, who discovered the stolen items at a local pawn shop. Upon obtaining information about the person who brought the items in, Barner was identified as the suspect.

Barner is familiar to investigators, as he has been a suspect in several other recent burglaries in the area. Through further investigation, police were able to link Barner to this burglary and charge him accordingly. The Utica Police Department is continuing to investigate Barner’s potential involvement in other thefts.
