ATLANTIC CITY, NJ—The Atlantic City Police Department announced the arrest of a suspect linked to a shooting that occurred on July 4. The incident was investigated by the department’s Violent Crimes Unit, leading to significant developments.

On the evening of Independence Day, around 9:55 PM, officers were called to the scene of a large fight on the 1000 block of Sewell Avenue. During the disturbance, a 24-year-old man from New York was shot. He received immediate treatment from officers at the scene and was later transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Investigative efforts culminated on July 25 when detectives filed criminal charges against 19-year-old Charles Summers of Atlantic City. Detective Aaron Jones apprehended Summers on the first block of South Florida Avenue the same day.

Summers faces charges including attempted murder, three counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He has been remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. It is important to note that these charges are accusations and not evidence of guilt. Under the law, Summers is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
