Suspect Charged in Mount Rainier Fatal Shooting

Mount Rainier, MD** – The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit has identified and charged 39-year-old Louis Gregory of Brentwood in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Mount Rainier. Gregory is accused of the murder of 22-year-old Freyer Yanez-Salas, a resident of Washington, D.C.

The incident occurred on the 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue on September 23, at approximately 7:30 p.m. when Mount Rainier Police officers responded to a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Yanez-Salas deceased inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds. Two other adults, a male and a female, were discovered at the scene with critical injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.

Investigations suggest that the shooting resulted from a dispute involving the suspect. Gregory now faces charges of first- and second-degree murder along with additional related charges. He is currently held in the custody of the Department of Corrections and is on a no-bond status.

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit continues to investigate homicides within the City of Mount Rainier.
