GATES, NY – A traffic stop turned fatal on Sunday night after a suspect was shot by a state trooper.
The event began when a state trooper attempted a traffic stop on Interstate 490 near Innovative Field.
The driver, however, evaded the stop, initiating a westbound chase. After exiting on State Route 531 in Gates, the suspect’s vehicle collided with a guardrail before entering a field.
Reportedly, the suspect then exited the vehicle, fired a round from a handgun, and disobeyed police commands.
In response, the trooper discharged his firearm, resulting in the suspect’s death. The trooper involved received treatment on the scene and was subsequently released.
