Suspect Fleeing Deputies Wrecks Vehicle in Crash

CUMBERLAND CITY, MD – Deputies with the Allegany Sheriff’s Office captured a man who fled police on foot after crashing his vehicle during a police pursuit.

Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a westbound vehicle on Interstate 68, near the 58 mile marker, at approximately 8:00 PM on July 30th.

The operator of the vehicle, later identified as Daries Raheem Legette, 30 years old, of Baltimore, failed to yield to deputies and attempted to flee and elude law enforcement at high rates of speed and in a reckless manner.

The pursuit continued into Cumberland City, where the suspect lost control of the vehicle on Wallace Street, crashing into a wooded area.

After the crash, Legette fled from the vehicle and headed towards the Allegany Trail. However, deputies were successful in locating him and placed him under arrest without further incident. He has been charged with Obstructing and hindering, Resisting Arrest, Operating a motor vehicle without a license, Fleeing and Eluding Law Enforcement and multiple additional traffic charges.

No injuries were sustained by the suspect, the public, or law enforcement officers during the incident.
