Suspect in Custody in Maryland Stabbing Murder

EDGEWATER, Md. — A man has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a woman in Edgewater last month, according to Anne Arundel County Police.

James Strachan Houston, 58, of Edgewater, was arrested Friday morning in connection with the August 9, 2024, stabbing death of 47-year-old Nancianne S. Houston. Authorities said both individuals were known to each other and were involved in an altercation when the incident occurred at an apartment on South River S.

Officers had responded to the scene at approximately 5:00 p.m. on the day of the stabbing and found both Nancianne Houston and James Houston with apparent stab wounds. Nancianne Houston was pronounced dead at the scene by fire department personnel, while James Houston was taken to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries.

Homicide detectives launched an investigation, and on September 25, they obtained an arrest warrant for James Houston. He was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and related assault charges.

Houston was located in Edgewater by members of the Anne Arundel County Police Fugitive Apprehension Team at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Friday. He was transported to the Jennifer Road Detention Center for processing.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are continuing to seek information related to the case.
