Suspect smashes into Newark café grabs register and flees with $200

NEWARK, N.J. — Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who smashed his way into a local coffee shop and stole a cash register containing $200.

The burglary occurred early Wednesday at Black Swan Espresso on the 90 block of Halsey Street. Responding officers discovered the front door window had been broken with a rock.

Surveillance footage shows the suspect entering through the shattered glass, grabbing the register, and walking southbound on Halsey Street.

He was last seen wearing a tan hat, black hooded sweatshirt, grey pants, and beige sneakers.
