Suspect Who Shot and Killed 10-Year-Old in Franklin on the Loose

FRANKLIN, VA – A shooting on Artis Street in Franklin on Wednesday resulted in the death of a 10-year-old boy and injuries to a 37-year-old man.

Franklin police received calls around 3 p.m. about the incident in the 300 block of Artis Street.

Both victims were found with life-threatening injuries. The boy succumbed to his injuries at Bon Secours Southampton Memorial Hospital, while the man was treated and released from Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

The incident reportedly began with an altercation outside a residence. Tashawnda Nicole Drayton, 24, has been identified as the shooter and faces multiple charges.

Drayton, considered armed and dangerous, was out on bail and is currently not in custody.

The victim has since been identified as 10-year-old La’Marj Deshawn Holden.
