Suspects behind bars after violent robbery in Newark

NEWARK, NJ – Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé reports the arrest of three suspects—two from Newark and one from Belleville—each charged with robbery. Kevin A. Banegas-Benitez, 21, of Newark, was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, and weapon-related offenses after stabbing a victim on Walnut Street on March 24, 2023. The victim was treated at University Hospital.

Hannah Karon, 30, of Newark, was arrested and charged with robbery after an incident at Broad and William streets on the same day. Samantha Jusino, 31, of Belleville, was arrested and charged with robbery and resisting arrest in connection with a theft at Caribe Supermarket on January 30, 2023. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
