HYATTSVILLE, MD – The Hyattsville Police Department confirmed an armed robbery of an armored vehicle and subsequent shooting on the 6400 block of East West Highway on Monday. The incident involved multiple suspects, one of whom was shot by an armored car employee and is in a critical but stable condition in the hospital.

The robbery occurred at 9:20 a.m. as the courier was servicing the drive-through ATM. Two armed males, one with an assault rifle, and the other with a handgun, attempted to rob the armored vehicle. Another armored vehicle company employee, who was providing additional security, fired at the suspects, hitting one multiple times.

The other two suspects fled the scene in a four-door black Lexus with a Maryland temporary tag and damage to the front bumper. The HPD, in cooperation with multiple local and federal agencies, is seeking information about the suspects who remain at large, as they are believed to be responsible for several similar incidents.

Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the HPD Criminal Investigations Section at 301-985-5060.
