Suspect Faces Multiple Charges Following Firearm Incident

**Delmar, MD -** An incident involving a firearm occurred on December 12, leading to severe allegations against a suspect in Delmar, Wicomico County. Deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division responded to the situation at the 28000 Block of Waller Rd.

A victim claimed that during an argument, 45-year-old Richard Lee Luffman brandished a firearm and threatened harm. The victim reported being forced into a closet, while another individual was locked in a separate room. There was also a threat to the residents’ lives, resulting in minor injuries to one victim during the ordeal.

Luffman was later located by the Delaware State Police in Seaford, Delaware. Held by the Delaware Department of Corrections, he waived extradition and will be returned to Wicomico County. He faces charges of Second Degree Assault, two counts of False Imprisonment, and carrying a Handgun on a person.

West Goshen Township Officer Faces Charges for Substance Theft

**West Chester, PA** – The Chester County District Attorney’s Office has announced the arrest of David Maurer, 55, a Detective Sergeant with the West Goshen Township Police Department. Maurer is accused of taking controlled substances for personal use from a medication collection box on Wednesday.

Maurer has been charged with Possession of Controlled Substances and Theft by Unlawful Taking. He was apprehended and arraigned on Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Martin Goch. Following his arraignment, Maurer was released on his own recognizance.

On the day of the incident, Maurer was tasked with emptying medication collection boxes at the West Goshen Township Police Department and Chester County Hospital. These boxes are part of a county program for the safe disposal of unwanted medications. Maurer allegedly retained several pill bottles containing controlled substances for himself rather than ensuring their proper disposal.

Juvenile Faces Charges in Fatal Franklin Township Crash

**Clinton Township, NJ** – A 17-year-old from Clinton Township, NJ, is facing charges following a fatal car crash that occurred on August 22 in Franklin Township. The accident resulted in the death of 16-year-old Sophia Detorres of Franklin Township.

On that Thursday at around 7:30 a.m., Franklin Township Police and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office’s Fatal Crash Team responded to a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of Hogback Road, Route 617, and Lower Lansdown Road. Investigations revealed the juvenile driver exceeded the speed limit and failed to stop at a stop sign. There were three other juveniles in the vehicle during the crash.

The juvenile has been charged with second-degree death by auto, fourth-degree assault by auto, and two counts of disorderly persons assault by auto. Additionally, on September 6, Franklin Township Police issued motor vehicle summonses for reckless driving, careless driving, and violating probationary licensee conditions.

Repeat Shoplifter Faces Felony Charge in Stafford

**Stafford, VA** – A woman known for previous shoplifting incidents faced a felony charge for another attempt at a Walmart on Garrisonville Road. The sheriff’s office responded to the incident on Friday at approximately 6:26 p.m.

Sergeant M.L. Jacobeen and Deputy S. Waheed were called to the Walmart for a suspected theft. The store staff reported that a female with prior offenses was involved. Deputy Waheed reviewed surveillance footage while Sergeant Jacobeen searched the vicinity.

Sergeant Jacobeen soon found a woman matching the suspect’s description. The suspect initially denied any wrongdoing and falsely identified herself as the daughter of Hank Aaron. She was later correctly identified as Janice Scott, 61, of Stafford.

Scott had been previously involved in two shoplifting incidents in October. On this occasion, she was caught with stolen meat, cheese, and crackers. She now faces three counts of shoplifting, felony second offense identity theft, providing a false identity, and unlawful name change. She is being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail under a $2,000 secured bond.

Lignum Man Faces Felony Charge After Arrest

**Stafford, VA** – A man from Lignum, aged 36, has been charged with a felony for possessing controlled substances following an incident at a local inn.

On Tuesday at around 10:30 p.m., Sergeant B.U. Demirci and Deputy C.R. Newman were called to America’s Best Value Inn on Warrenton Road. Reports indicated a shirtless male acting erratically, leading officers to find him near the I-95 interchange. The man was identified as Bennie Smith.

Smith admitted to being at the inn but claimed he was headed to a different motel on Warrenton Road. Showing signs of intoxication, Smith was consequently arrested and taken to Rappahannock Regional Jail.

At the jail, Smith dropped a small object with a white powder while changing into jail attire. Officers and Smith scrambled for the object, which Smith attempted to ingest. Deputy Newman intervened to secure both Smith and the substance. Smith has been charged with public intoxication, felony evidence destruction, and obstruction of justice. His initial hold was replaced with a $5,000 secured bond.
