Newport News Police Seek Public’s Help in Double Homicide Case
**Newport News, VA -** The Newport News Police Department is again seeking public assistance in the ongoing investigation of a double homicide that occurred at the Kiln Creek 7-Eleven on June 15, 2022. Authorities are particularly interested in speaking with individuals who have previously provided information about the case.
On Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at approximately 11:46 p.m., police were dispatched to a reported suspicious situation at a business located on the 1400 block of Kiln Creek Parkway. Upon arrival, they discovered two adult males with gunshot wounds inside the establishment. The victims, identified as 52-year-old Preyas Patel and 35-year-old Logan Edward Thomas, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The 7-Eleven Corporation is now offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest related to this case. Individuals with knowledge about the incident or who can identify relevant persons are encouraged to contact Detective Rogers at 757-928-4219. This reward is separate from the Virginia Peninsula Crime Stoppers reward, and anonymity is not maintained for those seeking the 7-Eleven reward.

**Newport News, VA** – The Newport News Police Department (NNPD) has made two arrests in connection to a homicide that occurred on Marshall Avenue earlier this month. On Friday, November 1, at approximately 10:24 p.m., officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert on Marshall Avenue, discovering 24-year-old Mahleik Barber with gunshot wounds. Barber was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation led detectives to charge a 17-year-old juvenile male from Newport News, already in custody for an unrelated matter. On Tuesday, November 12, he was charged with second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and several firearm-related offenses related to Barber’s death.
Additionally, 18-year-old Deandre Hunter was arrested on Wednesday, November 13. Hunter, also from Newport News, faces charges of second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and several firearm offenses.

Newport News Police Seek Robbery Suspect Information
**Newport News, VA** – On Thursday, the Newport News Police Department (NNPD) responded to a report of a robbery involving a gun at a Bojangles restaurant on Warwick Boulevard. The incident occurred at approximately 4:25 p.m. when an individual entered the restaurant, went to the restroom, and later came out wearing a red mask.
The suspect reportedly brandished a handgun and demanded cash from the register, then fled the scene. Authorities describe the suspect as a white male, around 5-feet-5-inches tall, with a slender build.
