TOMS RIVER, NJ – Target stores today released information that they will be closing their doors on Thanksgiving Day, following the lead of competitor, Walmart.

There’s no question, the holiday season is going to be very different this year. Just as you’ve trusted Target for safe, convenient shopping throughout the pandemic, you can count on us to deliver that and so much more every week throughout the holiday season and beyond. And while that first bite of pumpkin pie and gifting wish lists are still months away, today we’re giving you a first look at how we’re adjusting our plans to make the holiday shopping experience simple, safe and stress-free.
“The investments we’ve made in our business and our incredible team have enabled us to move with flexibility and speed to meet guests’ changing needs during this global pandemic,” says Target CEO Brian Cornell. “This year more than ever, a joyful holiday will be inseparable from a safe one, and we’re continuing to adjust our plans to deliver ease, value and the joy of the season in a way that only Target can.”
Since March, we’ve introduced dozens of safety measures so guests can shop confidently in our stores. And we’re working on even more ways to ensure that your store experience is as convenient—and contactless—as possible, making Target America’s safest place to shop this holiday season.
Here’s a sneak peek at just a few of our holiday plans:
- Starting in October—and stretching out the savings. Let’s face it: Historically, deal hunting and holiday shopping can mean crowded events, and this isn’t a year for crowds. That’s why our biggest holiday deals will be available earlier than ever, so you can shop safely and conveniently without worrying about missing out on deals that usually come later in the season. Starting in October and continuing throughout the season, you’ll find Target’s lowest prices of the year on items in stores and online, giving you the flexibility to get the gifts you want—when and how you want—at the Target value you love.
- Closing our stores on Thanksgiving Day. When we say you can take advantage of great deals all season long, we really mean it. So kick back, relax and enjoy a long nap after you finish that last piece of Thanksgiving turkey. This season, you can count on getting extra-big savings without the extra-long lines, with plenty of opportunities to score the best deals on the hottest items both before and after November 26. - Making 20,000 more products—including fresh and frozen groceries—available via our pickup and delivery services. More and more guests are turning to our convenient, contactless same-day services like Drive Up, Order Pickup and Same-day Delivery with Shipt, which grew 278% in the first quarter. This holiday season, we’re doubling down, making 20,000 more gifts, essentials and everything in between available via our popular same-day services. Yep, that means offering fresh and frozen grocery items via Order Pickup and Drive Up at 1,500 Target stores across the country by this fall.
