Target shoppers sprayed in chemical attack during theft getaway

WILMINGTON, DE — A shoplifting incident escalated into a robbery Monday evening at the Target store in Brandywine Town Center, leaving three people injured by chemical spray.

At approximately 6:36 p.m. on Monday, July 7, troopers responded to Target at 1050 Brandywine Parkway following reports that two female suspects attempted to steal merchandise. As the pair exited the store, a Target employee confronted them, prompting one of the suspects to deploy a chemical spray.

The spray struck the employee and also hit two customers who were entering the store. All three victims were evaluated by EMS at the scene. No hospitalizations were reported.

The suspects fled the parking lot with stolen goods in a gray Honda Odyssey traveling toward Naamans Road. They have not yet been identified.

Investigators described the suspects as two unknown Black females wearing dark-colored clothing. Surveillance video and images from the scene have not been released.
