TEANECK, N.J. — Amid a statewide surge in drone sightings, the Teaneck Police Department is calling on residents to report any suspicious activity involving unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) as authorities continue their investigations.
In a public advisory issued Friday, police noted that while drones are commonly used for legitimate purposes such as delivery services, search and rescue, and infrastructure monitoring, they can also be exploited for illegal or malicious purposes, including potential acts of terrorism.
“While there is currently no known threat to public safety, the FBI, New Jersey State Police, and the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness are urging the public to remain vigilant,” the advisory said.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious drone sightings directly to the Teaneck Police Department at (201) 837-2600, the FBI at 1-800-225-5324, or online at https://tips.fbi.gov/home.
