Teen, 7-year-old Shot in Park After Football Game

AKRON, OH – A teenager and a 7-year-old child were injured in a shooting at Lane Field Park, located in the 600 block of Vernon Odom Boulevard, around 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The incident occurred near a playground, shortly after a youth football game had ended.

At least one masked shooter was involved in the incident, with the possibility of one or two additional individuals accompanying the shooter. Initial reports confirm that two individuals were hit by gunfire during the incident.

A 911 dispatcher reported that the scene involved many children who were at risk. Multiple callers mentioned hearing 10 to 15 shots.

A passerby assisted the 7-year-old boy, transporting him to Cleveland Clinic Akron General. The child, who attends Helen Arnold elementary school, is now in serious but stable condition after undergoing surgery, with more procedures expected.

Additionally, a 19-year-old male was shot in the leg, though his injuries are not deemed life-threatening. The Akron Police Department has not released any further details at this time.
