Teen charged for deadly stabbing after brief standoff with police

NEW YORK, NY – Early Thursday morning NYPD officers responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance involving an emotionally disturbed individual armed with a knife at 146-21 230 Street, in Queens.

Police arrived at the scene to find a 19-year-old male with a knife, who then attempted to barricade himself inside the residence.

Officers managed to gain entry to the premises, where they discovered a 60-year-old male with stab wounds to his chest and a slash wound on his arm. To ensure the safety of everyone involved, the police used a taser to incapacitate and detain the armed suspect.

Immediate attention was directed towards providing aid to the 60-year-old male victim, who was transported by Emergency Medical Services to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jamaica.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Officers took the 19-year-old male into custody without incident. He was transferred to Long Island Jewish Hospital for evaluation. Police recovered the knife used in the attack.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld until proper notification has been made to the family.
