Teen Riding Scooter Killed in Deadly Hit and Run

WEST NYACK, NY – Early morning on Friday, the Clarkstown Police Department responded to a report of a person laying on the roadway near 166 Rt 303 in West Nyack.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim, 18-year-old Dariel Rivera of Central Nyack, severely injured in the right lane of southbound Rt. 303 alongside a heavily damaged electric scooter.

 Medical personnel pronounced Rivera dead at the scene.

At approximately 5:45 am on the same day, the driver of a white Honda Pilot, identified as 35-year-old Patrick J. Sharkey III from Garnerville, NY, turned himself in at the Clarkstown Police Department, admitting he had struck someone on Rt. 303.

Charges against Sharkey include leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and circumventing an interlock device. Sharkey’s bail has been set at $50,000.
