Teen suspect shot during botched armed robbery in Northeast DC
Washington, DC — A 17-year-old from Suitland, Maryland, was arrested after a failed robbery attempt in Northeast Washington ended with both the suspect and victim shot during a struggle over a firearm late Saturday night.
Just after 10:20 p.m. on September 20, First District officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 200 block of 8th Street, NE. Upon arrival, they found an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was conscious and breathing.
Shortly afterward, a second shooting victim — later identified as the suspect — was found several blocks away in the 400 block of 9th Street, NE. Both individuals were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say the juvenile suspect had approached the victim and demanded his belongings at gunpoint. After the victim complied, the suspect ordered him to unlock his cell phone. A physical struggle then broke out, causing the firearm to discharge and injure both parties.
Following an investigation by detectives, the teen was arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Rob.

Authorities have not released the names of either individual due to the suspect’s age. The case remains under investigation.
