DC homicide investigation leads police to Maryland teen arrest
WASHINGTON DC — A 15-year-old suspect accused in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy in Northeast DC was captured in Maryland this week after a multi-agency fugitive search, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
The deadly shooting happened Thursday, April 23, at about 5:15 p.m. in the 5300 block of Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue Northeast.
Police said Sixth District officers arrived to find a juvenile male unconscious and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
DC Fire and EMS rushed the victim to a local hospital, where he later died despite lifesaving efforts.
Authorities identified the victim as 17-year-old Kenzell Locust of Northeast DC.
During the investigation, officers also discovered a crime scene in the 500 block of 55th Street Northeast along with two parked vehicles struck by gunfire.
MPD announced Wednesday that members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested a 15-year-old juvenile male Tuesday in Forestville, Maryland.
Police said the teen was taken into custody on a DC Superior Court arrest warrant and will be charged with second-degree murder while armed once extradited to Washington.
The investigation remains active.
MPD is offering a reward of up to $25K for information leading to arrests and convictions in District homicide cases.
