Tesla Driver Suffers Medical Emergency, Crashes into Building in Holmdel

HOLMDEL, N.J. — A Tesla traveling eastbound on Main Street crossed the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle before crashing into a building early Friday morning, according to the Holmdel Township Police Department.

The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of Main Street (Route 520) and Holmdel Road. Police said the Tesla collided with a westbound Honda Accord before veering off the road and crashing into a business located at 37 Main Street.

Authorities reported that the Tesla’s driver experienced a medical emergency just before the crash, which may have contributed to the vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic. Both drivers were taken to Bayshore Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

The business at 37 Main Street has been temporarily closed following the crash, with the township’s construction official ordering a structural evaluation of the building.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Officer Maeve Cosgrove at 732-946-4400 ext. 18118.
