ALBANY, NY – New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is under fire this week after a report by Attorney General Letitia James concluded that the governor abused his power and created a hostile work environment for women that even included sexual harassment.
Just two months ago, Cuomo showed similar insensitivity to New Yorkers who were not yet vaccinated, saying that if a person chooses not to get vaccinated and catches COVID-19, or worse, dies, it’s their own fault. Not exactly the words you would expect to hear from an award-winning politician who was called a “shining example” for America by the President.
In June, Andrew Cuomo had harsh words for unvaccinated New Yorkers and words of wisdom for those who are vaccinated.
If you’re vaccinated, you don’t have to worry about catching COVID-19 from an unvaccinated individual. If you chose not get get vaccinated, Cuomo says, “That’s your problem, not mine.”
“If you get a vaccine, you don’t have to worry about unvaccinated people,” Cuomo said. “You may not be vaccinated, but you don’t pose a risk to me because I am vaccinated. So if you are vaccinated, what are you worrying about?”
Cuomo was fielding a question from a reporter who was asking about the potential of vaccination status becoming a social class in New York city.
“If you’re worried about unvaccinated people, then get a vaccine,” Cuomo said. “There will be unvaccinated people. That’s their problem. They have to worry about catching COVID…not you.”
Two months later, that has changed. While Cuomo in June had a ‘to each their own’ attitude on vaccination, now he says the unvaccinated pose a threat to both the vaccinated and other vaccinated New Yorkers.
“If we do not make progress on vaccinating that unvaccinated population, 25 percent, with the delta variant, you’re going to see the numbers go up. And that is a large number, and we’re going to lose lives, and it will be disruptive. We cannot let that happen,” Cuomo said.
