Three Charged in Shooting of New Jersey State Police Detective

TRENTON, NJ – A state grand jury has filed criminal charges against three defendants for the shooting of a New Jersey State Police detective in Paterson, according to Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin.

Jocquise Timmons, 28, Tajshmer Johnson, 30, and Queenasia McFarlane, 30, all of Paterson, were charged in connection with the March 2, shooting.

Timmons and Johnson have been indicted on two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault. Additionally, Timmons has been charged with several weapons counts, while McFarlane was charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution.

The detective was shot in the lower leg while investigating a reported attempted break-in near East 26th Street and 9th Avenue in Paterson. The detective underwent surgery at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson and survived.

Timmons was arrested on March 3, in South Carolina, while Johnson was taken into custody on Thursday, July 20. McFarlane was charged after allegedly providing false information to the police during the investigation. The charges against the defendants are merely accusations, and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
