North Codorus Township, PA – Three police officers were fatally shot and two others wounded Wednesday afternoon when a gunman opened fire from a cornfield during a domestic-related investigation in York County, authorities said.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, officers with the Northern York County Regional Police Department were conducting a follow-up visit at a farmhouse on Haar Road after receiving a report Tuesday that a woman’s ex-boyfriend had been stalking her property.

The suspect, dressed in camouflage, allegedly opened fire from a nearby cornfield as officers approached. Three Northern York County officers were killed in the ambush.

The gunman then moved toward the farmhouse, exchanging fire with York County Sheriff’s deputies who had responded for backup. Two deputies were struck, while a third returned fire and killed the shooter, officials said.

The woman who reported the stalking was not injured. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the shooter, who had previously been the subject of an attempted arrest warrant and restraining order.

Investigators are working to determine whether the suspect was targeting his ex-girlfriend or lying in wait for law enforcement officers.
