Three Joppatowne Murder-Suicide Victims, Shooter Identified

JOPPATOWNE, MD – On Saturday, deputies were called to the 300 block of Trimble Road for a report of an active shooter situation.

Upon arrival, four victims were found, three of whom were confirmed deceased at the scene. One juvenile was severely injured and later died from his injuries.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division has assumed the investigation. The suspect has been identified as Devin Brown, 34, and the victims as Sherlyn Ann Pitts, 65; Sheena Yvonne Smothers, 38; and a male juvenile, 17.

It is believed that the suspect, along with his mother Sherlyn Pitts, had arrived at the apartment to visit Sheena Smothers and her son.

Brown is believed to have shot the three family members before taking his own life. The motive for the homicide is still under investigation.
