Wilkes-Barre woman busted after stealing tip jar and carrying drugs
Wilkes-Barre, PA — A 43-year-old woman is facing theft and drug charges after she allegedly swiped a tip jar from a local business on West Market Street and was later found in possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
On Sunday at approximately 4:19 p.m., officers responded to a report of theft from a business along West Market Street. According to the 33-year-old employee, the store’s tip jar was discovered missing during her shift. Upon reviewing surveillance video, she recognized the suspect taking the jar from the counter before fleeing the scene.
Police said they were able to identify the suspect as Alexandra Sainte of Wilkes-Barre based on prior encounters. Officers later located Sainte on West Jackson Street, where she was taken into custody without incident.
During a search incident to arrest, officers found suspected narcotics and drug-related items on Sainte’s person. She was transported to City Headquarters for processing and arraignment.
Formal charges related to theft and possession of a controlled substance are pending. The nature and quantity of the suspected drugs have not been disclosed.
