Toddler struck and Killed in parking lot

LAUREL, MD – An accident unfolded on Wednesday, when a 23-month-old male toddler was struck by a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder on the 3600 block of Laurel – Fort Meade Road.

The vehicle, driven by a 37-year-old female from Laurel, was parked in a commercial lot when the incident occurred. The child, emerging from a carport area, walked towards the stationary vehicle. The driver, failing to notice the toddler, began to move forward, resulting in the child being struck.

Emergency services transported the young boy to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The driver did not report any injuries. The incident remains under investigation by the Traffic Safety Section.

It is unknown whether charges will be filed.
