OCEAN COUNTY, NJ – Raphael Powell, a 37-year-old resident of Toms River, was found guilty on Thursday, of several charges including Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Terroristic Threats.
The verdict follows a week-long jury trial presided over by Honorable Guy P. Ryan, P.J.Cr.P. Powell now faces a potential sentence of 20 years to life in New Jersey State Prison, with sentencing scheduled for March 1.
The charges stem from an incident on July 2, 2022, in Toms River Township. Officers responded to an assault report and met with a male victim who stated he was threatened with a handgun.
Powell, identified as the assailant, was arrested the following day. During his arrest, he was found in possession of a stolen handgun loaded with hollow nose bullets and 30 wax folds of Fentanyl.
Since his apprehension, Powell has been lodged in the Ocean County Jail.
