Toms River, NJ – The Toms River Police Department says they have captured two fugitive suspects wanted for a break-in at the local Home Depot store in December, The two men confronted an employee with a knife as they stole thousands of dollars in wire.
Detectives tracked the suspects to a car purchase they made in Delaware before the incident.
Officers were called to the Home Depot on Route 9 shortly before 3:00 PM on Dec. 8, following a report of a male shoplifting a significant amount of wire. The suspect, using bolt cutters, breached the lock securing the wire behind cages and made off with 27 rolls of 12-2 wire, valued at approximately $2,916.
Confronted by an employee, the suspect brandished a utility knife and threatened the worker before fleeing. The suspect and an accomplice were seen loading the stolen wire into a white Chevy Impala and exiting the area.
The vehicle’s registered owner, who does not resemble the suspects, reported selling the car at a Delaware gas station before the theft occurred.
