Two Suicidal Incidents Prompt Quick Response in Toms River

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Toms River Police Department swiftly responded to two separate incidents involving suicidal individuals, resulting in timely interventions and medical care for both parties involved.

The quick response to these incidents in local parks resulted in two suicides being prevented.

In the first incident, police were alerted to an 18-year-old female reported missing and at risk of suicide. The woman, known to frequent Riverwood Park, was later spotted by a witness around 5:54 PM, partially submerged in water and in possession of a knife and medications.

Police arrived and she eventually exited the water, revealing her attempt to harm herself through stabbing and drowning, both of which were unsuccessful. She was transported to Monmouth Medical Center South for further treatment.

The second case involved a 20-year-old male who, following a dispute, ventured into Cattus Island Park and exhibited suicidal behavior. Officers employed a drone operated by Ptl. Carolan, to locate him at the edge of Mosquito Cove. He was safely guided out of the area and taken to Community Medical Center for psychiatric evaluation.

Toms River police officers’ actions helped saved the lives of these two individuals.
