FLORIDA, N.Y. — A tractor-trailer carrying steel beams overturned on the New York State Thruway near Exit 27, leaving two people seriously injured, New York State Police said Wednesday.

The crash occurred at about 4:07 p.m. Tuesday in the eastbound lanes. Investigators determined that the tractor-trailer was traveling in the left lane when it veered onto the left shoulder and rolled over, spilling its cargo onto the median.

Both the driver and a passenger were airlifted to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to police.

Authorities have not released the identities of those involved, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
