Trader Joe’s to Open at Abandoned Middletown Walgreens

Outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), in Bailey's Crossroads

MIDDLETOWN, NJ – The abandoned former Walgreens store in the Middletown Plaza will soon transform into a Trader Joe’s. The company moved one step closer this week by adding the location to its official website.

The news was officially announced in July, but this week, they added a “Coming 2024” banner on the company’s website, identified as Trader Joe’s #591.

The highly anticipated store will occupy a 14,068-square-foot building, making it an ideal addition to the thriving shopping center. It is located at the end of Middletown Plaza, closest to Harmony Road.

The location of the new Trader Joe’s was previously occupied by a Walgreens store, which had undergone a conversion from a Rite Aid pharmacy in 2019. The Walgreens closed its doors in February 2022, leaving the space vacant at the shopping center.

Trader Joe’s operates 13 locations in New Jersey.
