Traffic Stop in Laurel Leads to Drug Arrest

LAUREL, DE – The Delaware State Police, in conjunction with the Sussex County Governor’s Task Force and Delaware Probation and Parole officers, have arrested 42-year-old Edsel Wootten, III of Laurel, on felony drug charges.

The arrest occurred during a traffic stop on the night of Thursday, in Laurel.

Wootten was apprehended after failing to signal while turning into the First Stop gas station at 114 West Street.

During the stop, officers observed a bundle of suspected heroin in Wootten’s pocket. A subsequent search revealed various drugs and related items, including methamphetamines, crack cocaine, cocaine, heroin, Naloxone films, a digital scale, and suspected drug proceeds.

Wootten has been charged with multiple drug-related offenses and is being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on a $18,300 cash bond.
