Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest on Drug and Weapon Charges

NEW CASTLE, DE – Delaware State Police announced on Thursday that they had arrested Dominique Mozelle, a 33-year-old man from Newark, DE, on drug and weapon charges following a traffic stop in the New Castle area. A trooper on patrol observed Mozelle’s gray Mazda 3 traveling over the posted speed limit on Interstate 495 and initiated a traffic stop.

Upon making contact with Mozelle, the trooper detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and observed suspected marijuana in the cup holder.

After conducting a probable cause search, the trooper discovered a loaded 9mm Springfield Hellcat handgun and approximately 16.82 grams of marijuana in the car.

Mozelle was taken into custody without incident and charged with several crimes, including carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, possession of marijuana, and driving at an unreasonable or imprudent speed. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court #2 and released on his own recognizance.
