Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrests in Cumberland

CUMBERLAND, MD – On Friday, a routine traffic stop by the Cumberland Police Department (CPD) led to drug-related arrests on South Street.

The vehicle, flagged for expired registration, was inspected with the assistance of a CPD K9 unit.

Chelsea Erin Thomas, a 38-year-old from Ridgeley, WV, was found in possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

She was charged at the CPD headquarters with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and released with a Maryland Uniform Criminal Citation and a Traffic Citation.

Kevin Shipe, a 37-year-old passenger from Frostburg, MD, faced immediate arrest. He was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, intent to distribute, and paraphernalia, and is currently detained at the Allegany County Detention Center awaiting his court appearance.
