A traffic stop in the Wilmington area last night resulted in the arrest of 36-year-old Carl Wright of Wilmington on drug and weapon charges.

As a trooper on patrol on March 4, 2023, at approximately 8:51 p.m., a brown Honda Pilot was traveling southbound on Interstate 95 in Wilmington at high speed and failed to signal a lane change.

Upon initiating the traffic stop, the trooper was able to identify the operator, Carl Wright, and two other occupants. The trooper immediately smelled the presence of marijuana inside the vehicle. As a result of a probable cause search, the trooper discovered a loaded Hi-Point 9mm handgun and approximately 79.1 grams of marijuana.

He was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court No. 11 and released on an unsecured bond of $7,800.
