Trenton Man Charged in Fatal Shooting

TRENTON, NJ – The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest of a Trenton man in connection with a recent fatal shooting. Kareem Pygum, 43, faces multiple charges including first-degree murder and attempted murder.

The arrest, made on April 10 on Hudson Street by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and Trenton Police Department, followed an investigation into a shooting on April 4, 2024. During the arrest, Pygum was found with crack cocaine and a .38 Smith & Wesson revolver, leading to additional charges. A motion to detain Pygum pending trial has been filed by the prosecutor’s office.

The April 4 incident, reported around 8 p.m. at the 500 block of N. Clinton Avenue, left two adults injured and one dead. Jose Alfredo Azcona Garcia, 46, succumbed to a head wound on April 9. Another male victim received a graze wound to his cheek, and a female victim was treated for a shoulder wound. Both were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center.
