Troy Man Detained on Firearms and Drug Trafficking Charges

ALBANY, NEW YORK – Richawn McClain, a 25-year-old resident of Troy, New York, has been detained following his recent indictment on charges of possessing a firearm in connection with drug trafficking activities. United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and DEA Special Agent in Charge Frank A. Tarentino III announced the charges, highlighting the serious nature of the allegations.

The indictment accuses McClain of possessing a Glock .40 caliber handgun, which had been illegally modified to function as a machine gun. Additionally, he is alleged to have intended to distribute a cocaine-fentanyl mixture and over 900 oxycodone pills. The charges also note McClain’s status as a previously convicted felon, unlawfully in possession of the firearm.

McClain faces a significant legal battle, with the indictment carrying a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years to a potential life sentence, a supervised release period ranging from 3 years to life, and the possibility of a $1 million fine. It is important to note that the charges are merely accusations, and McClain remains presumed innocent until proven guilty. The sentencing will be determined by a judge, considering the specific statutes violated, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, and other relevant factors.
