Trump Responds to USA Hockey Invite to Tonight’s Championship Game Against Canada

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald J. Trump announced Thursday that he would be calling Team USA’s hockey squad ahead of their championship matchup against Canada, offering encouragement before the highly anticipated game.

“I’ll be calling our GREAT American Hockey Team this morning to spur them on towards victory tonight against Canada,” Trump posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The president, who said he would be speaking before the nation’s governors in Washington, D.C., and unable to attend the game in person, added a characteristic remark about U.S.-Canada relations. “With FAR LOWER TAXES AND MUCH STRONGER SECURITY, [Canada] will someday, maybe soon, become our cherished, and very important, Fifty First State,” he wrote.

Trump also extended an invitation to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, saying he would be “most welcome” to join the White House viewing of the game.

The USA-Canada hockey rivalry is one of the most intense in international sports, particularly in championship matchups.
